TOMORROW IS A NEW DAY!

I am not having a good day! I caught the self-pity bug. You may have suffered from this from time to time? You know all that writing, all that effort trying to stay positive...wondering when your next acceptance will come along? I spent the day with Stephen King, Under the Dome. A huge novel, in many ways, 1074 pages. Great story, believable characters. I was transported into another world... a strange world but his expertise as a writer made it a believable world. He sure can write! I experienced many emotions.. all the ups and downs the characters were going through. Stephen King's writing impressed me, awed me and yes, made me envious. His writing ability is definitely something to aspire to.

After reading a couple of hundred pages I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself. I thought time to stop hitting the panic button, keep writing and that acceptance will come and then another will follow. That is usually the way it is with me.. nothing and then two or three. I decided to come online and read other writer's blogs, that always inspires me and gets me in a better mood. Well, did I hit the panic button over and over... my blog had disappeared. It was gone! Not there! Of course common sense told me not to panic, but all I could think about was all those posts I made, the following that has started to grow and how much I look forward to blogging. All gone! No sooner had I posted in the google help forum when my blog magically re-appeared. I am so relieved, confused but relieved.

So, after the non-writing day I have just had, (thank goodness Stephen King was here to keep me company) I will stop my complaining and give your ears (perhaps eyes?) a rest.

Tomorrow is a new day....

  1. THank goodness your blog reappeared! It really throws you when Blogger does things like that!

I think we all suffer those down days when it feels as if nothing will come right, you're not alone there :-)

I loved Under the Dome. I became so immersed in it that even when I was out walking, I felt as though I were in the dome - living the book as it were! But Stephen King often gets me like that. Absolutely brilliant writer x

    1. Hi Teresa. I would be lost without blogger. I need that support from you guys and it does give me comfort knowing I am not alone. Funny you should say that about feeling like you were in the dome. We have had a lot of humid weather and I've been thinking the same thing. If it wasn't for my eyes getting tired I am sure I would sit there and read the book in one sitting. I'm looking forward to getting back to Under the Dome. Love it! x

  2. So glad you're still here, Diane! As Teresa says, we all have days like these - honestly. And it's a good idea to read when feeling down as it takes us out of ourselves for a while. Bet you'll get back to your writing more energised and positive now!

    1. Thanks so much for that Rosemary. I've got a short story I've been drafting and the plan today is to type up those notes and hopefully the ending magically comes to me as I am typing. That would make me feel good, really good! x

  3. Blogger has a mind of its own, doesn't it?

Stephen King is an awesome writer. Have you read his book 'On Writing'? It's my favourite book about writing. A great inspiration!

    1. Hi Shirley, Blogger frightened me yesterday. Bad blogger. As I am replying to comments this morning the comments are deleting themselves and I have had to retype them - so Blogger is still not feeling well. I actually borrowed Stephen King's 'On Writing' when I borrowed Under the Dome. I'm looking forward to reading that one too. Thanks for your comment x

  4. Blogger and Yahoo are upsetting me right now. The only way I can read bkogs is by iPad. Can't even get on line on the laptop as Yahoo is 'down'. Like you I am thankful that I have books to read. No Steven King though, not read his work for a while. I don't offer my work for publication anymore, I just write for pleasure and for the chosen few.

    1. Hello Valerie - I was stunned to read you don't offer your work for publication anymore. When I read that story of yours on your blog, I thought 'Wow'. I will go back to your blog and search out others you have posted there. You are an amazing writer. It's a shame your stories are not more widely read! x

  5. I know that a number of people are having trouble with their blogs one way or the other. I was locked out of my comments box for about a week. Thankfully yours and mine have righted themselves. I haven't actually read any of Stephen King's books, although I did read his book on writing ages ago. Must get one of his next. I'm reading The Help at the moment - another book to get lost in. I'm reading more lately and hoping that will inspire me to get writing again. We all go through these phases at some time I think. Good luck with yours.

  7. I can imagine your panic over a dissapearing blog - I'd have been equally as upset.

Sorry you were having a rotten day and glad you seem more positive now. Hope you get good news soon.

    1. Thank you Patsy. Yesterday I was going to post about the number of stories I've submitted here in Australia and overseas BUT I thought better of that because that would only point out to me how many stories I have to send out before something gets accepted. Would not have lifted my mood, lol. Hopefully soon, I will be able to post about an acceptance! Send me some of your good vibes, will you please?

  10. "I caught the self-pity bug. You may have suffered from this from time to time?"

Nope. Life is full of peaks, some smaller than others. The small ones come easy when you focus on the big ones in the distance.

Glad you got your wayward blog back, Diane. I ain't known you long, but I know I'd have missed you.

  11. Hello Diane,

What can I say...I'm sorry you've been feeling blue about not getting an acceptance. What I do know is the bleakest moments can turn around very quickly.

Maybe you need a day away, or an afternoon out? Perhaps a long walk would energise you again. I know it makes me feel better.

If all else fails, there's always cake!

Blogger is an entirely different matter. We are all in the hands of the gurus that control these things. All we can do is keep the faith.

    Be happy.

    1. Hello Maria - You are absolutely right. The walk did me the world of good. I've been doing a lot of reading lately which has sparked up some writing ideas for me too. Mmmmm cake. :-)

  12. I'm so relieved you got your blog back, it must have been such a shock to lose it.

I think all writers go through that self-pitying phase every so often, I certainly do. Thankfully it soon passes and it's back to being creative once again.

  14. Glad your blog is back, Diane. I'm sure you'll bounce back from your self-pity phase just as quickly. It's natural. All writers go through it, but then we shake it off and carry on writing.

You'll enjoy 'On Writing', I'm sure.
